The Material Culture Caucus of the American Studies Association (ASA)

announces the following session at the Association’s Annual Meeting,
“The Fun and the Fury: New Dialectics of Pleasure and Pain In the Post-American Century,”
6-9 November  2014, Westin Bonaventure Hotel, Los Angeles, CA USA

Since its formation in 1994, the Material Culture Caucus has bridged the gap between university-based and museum-based scholars to promote the study of material culture in American Studies programs. Join a panel of scholar-teachers in a very interactive session playing twenty questions. Questions will be provided; evocative (and questionable) objects will be at hand but participants are encouraged to bring their own as well. The goal is to riff on this list and play with the objects as we develop rich strategies for using objects in the American Studies classroom.
